Identification Help: Simple Unadorned Jitte with Mei (37.7cm, 551g)

Hello everyone,

I recently acquired a Jitte from a Japanese flea market and I am looking for more information regarding its origin, school, and the translation of the Mei (signature).

This is a strictly functional and unadorned piece. There are no decorative elements, engravings, or precious metal inlays. It has a very "utilitarian" feel, focusing entirely on weight and durability. The surface shows clear signs of hand-forging and age.

Specifications:

Total Length: 37.7 cm

Weight: 551.2 g (Very heavy and solid in hand)

Material: Forged Steel

Design: Simple, hexagonal/octagonal tapered shaft, plain hook (kagi), and no integrated handguard or decorative hilt.

Signature (Mei) details:
The characters are deeply struck on both sides of the shaft

I would be very grateful if the community could help me:

Confirm the reading of the Mei.

Provide insights into the school or province .

Identify the likely period .

Thank you very much for your time and expertise!

Best regards,
[Jack Do]

Jack,

I get the impression that this is a modern item. No handle, no patina, a bit crudely made, 'signature' machine (?) stamped and upside-down - all that might speak for a non-Japanese origin.

Hi Jean,

Thank you very much for your candid assessment.
Regardless of its origin, it's still an interesting lesson for me. Thanks again for sharing your expertise!"
