I've seen a Tanto in shirasaya that interests me, maybe gimei...but I'm unsure whether it's a genuine Tamahagane. I only have these photos of the blade. I'd like an opinion. There are traces of rust (in spots), and the nagako looks good. The blade leaves me skeptical. But I could be wrong. Also, the era (it could be Meiji, assuming it's Tamahagane). I'm not linking the address out of respect for the seller.

Stefano,

a nice OSORAKU blade! They were often made in SHIN-SHINTO era as revival pieces.

Could we see the NAKAGO please (not Nagako !)?

How do you want to determine if it is made from TAMAHAGANE unless you can see a clear HADA (which is not a guarantee but a greater likelihood)? There are spectroscopic methods to get a precise steel analysis.

What leaves me perplexed is that ...from the photos... the metal looks (like that of industrial gunto swords) without the metal having any activity.
