Steve Waszak Posted Thursday at 01:02 AM Report Posted Thursday at 01:02 AM I will be helping a good friend reorganize his collection of tsuba over the coming days and weeks, as he does not participate on internet forums. He will be moving quite a few pieces, and there will be a lot of variety, so, please be on the lookout for the postings I'll be making with offers of good tsuba at very fair prices. To start things off, here is a brass ko-kinko (Momoyama, I would say) mokko sword guard, featuring a lively and powerfully-carved dragon-and-cloud motif. The placement and style of the motif is reminiscent of the Shimizu Jingo artists of Higo, though they would come a bit later. The forming of the dragon invests it with much character, and creates a very pleasing presentation of the motif (I think ), which actually curls up across the rim and then continues down the left side of the ura. This is a wakizashi-sized sword guard, measuring 62.5mm x 57mm x 4mm. The tsuba has a quiet patina, with clear signs of having been mounted. Quite a lovely little tsuba. $350.00, plus shipping. 2 Quote
