Matsunoki Posted August 13 Report Posted August 13 (edited) @Bugyotsuji Piers is the signature man (but I do not recognise this one) and I am very suspicious of this piece. I suspect it is not what it seems although carved with some degree of “Japanese aesthetic” See this very similar but more highly finished piece that has popped up on eBay . I am suspicious of that as well. I have never seen this model of tiger before and boxwood tigers were a big part of my old collection. But of course I may be totally wrong. edit..link didnt work. Search eBay for “netsuke tiger” Edited August 13 by Matsunoki 1 Quote
Steve75 Posted August 13 Author Report Posted August 13 Wow, yes, I see the ebay Netsuke tiger -- thank you for this. -- It looks very similar indeed. -- I was so impressed by this one -- to see another one like this makes it a bit less impressive I must admit. -- but to be fair, this one is much more detailed and better carved than the ebay one. -- Was it common, that some Netsuke were recarved by other artists? -- nevertheless thank you very much for your help. 1 Quote
Steve75 Posted August 13 Author Report Posted August 13 What do you mean with "Piers is the signature man" -- Who is Piers? -- sorry for this Quote
Matsunoki Posted August 13 Report Posted August 13 Piers is our netsuke man on this forum. He will see I have mentioned him above and will doubtless help you (and me!) Actually I think the one on eBay is a better carving. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted August 13 Report Posted August 13 Agreeing with Colin (Matsunoki) above, sadly, a NLO. (A somewhat better quality Netsuke-like object. Young, so fine for actually wearing today!) Quote
