Greetings,

Sword was brought back from WW2 by my Grandmother's Brother John Frost. His division started in Papua New Guinea and ended up at Gifu until he was sent to the Korean War where unfortunately he never returned. Need help with translation of mei and/or any information on the maker. Thank you for your time.

The sword appears to read 'Echizen ju Shimosaka'. Likely shinto (early Edo period).

Unfortunately the nakago (tang) has been cleaned and the rust has been removed. It is important to preserve the patina in this area.

The tsuba is signed Kunihiro.
