tac1984 Posted June 14 Report Posted June 14 Hi everyone, I recently won this sword at an auction. Upon receiving it I found it to be unlike most Japanese swords I've seen. After some research I was told it was Ainu. Unfortunately I can't find much more information about it and the auction description just said "Japanese Wakazashi". If anyone may know how old it is or anything else about it I'd be very grateful to know. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 Well, it seems to be made with 籐 (Tou) equatorial rattan, wood and stag antler. The blade steel does not show us much much in that state, but with a bit of negative sori it does have Japanese blade characteristics; without a photo of the hidden nakago tang, however it is difficult to make too many more comments. Bugyotsuji Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 Ah, well done! Been bashed around a bit. It looks like 信忠 Nobutada from here…(?) That should start the detective ball rolling! 1 Quote
