sabi Posted March 15 Report Posted March 15 Good evening NMB, On offer today is a top shelf water jar by a legendary maker. There's nothing I can possibly say about Sugimoto Sadamitsu that would be of more flattery than the pages of web hits you'd get when searching his name. He is a master in every sense of the title and will go down as one of Japan's most important contemporary Iga/Shigaraki potters. This water jar is everything that is righteous about his work - the immensely strong form and dazzling array of firing effects from the brutal, often weeks long trial that Iga wares are put through. A true masterwork with a Momoyama flower vase inspired shape, an ethereal range of colors and textures and a presence that is felt from across whatever room you decide to display it in. The lid has a small kintsugi repair that was beautifully done and of course, this only adds to its beauty. The box has some damage/separation at the base which is reflected in the price. A bit of wood glue would bring it back to a nearly imperceptible hairline, but I'll leave that decision to the next owner. Measures 21cm tall by 20cm wide. $450 shipped to the USA, international buyers please contact me for a quote. Payment to be made by PayPal F&F only. If you do not want the box, I'll knock $20 off the price give the reduction in shipping costs that will follow. Please let me know if you need additional pics or have any questions. Thanks for looking! 1 Quote
