Bruno Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Hello gentlemen! I do like to buy a kozuka blade for a restauration project wakizashi, I found 2 or 3 of them on Ebay. I will be glad to have your wise opinion on them to let me know if I should bid on one of them or not. http://cgi.ebay.fr/SAMURAI-The-blade-of ... 1c0d80397b http://cgi.ebay.fr/Imperial-Japanese-Sa ... 5883fbe67b As I am not an expert, I was also wondering if there is 2 types of kozuka blade, one for wakizashi size and one for katana size? I am not looking for a perfect kozuka but do not want to buy a replica even a vintage replica. I hope anybody could give me some clue. Regards Quote
John A Stuart Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Hi Bruno, Skip #1 completely. #2, you can find better. Ko-gatana are relatively the same size as are the kozuka and kogai. Most times the kozuka and kogai are on a wakizashi although they appear on katana or tanto occasionally. John Quote
Bruno Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 hi john, Thank you for your answer. Ok I will find better ones. the #1 has this aspect because not polished or just because of bad shape? the#2 has "golden mei" is it normal? I have never saw that before. Regards Quote
John A Stuart Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 #2 just looks too fresh and the obverse is not shown to illustrate the hamon that is a buying point. I am missing what you mean by 'goldn mei'. Some ko-gatana have inscriptions, but, most are honourific. John Quote
Bruno Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 my bad! it is the#1 who has a "golden mei" not the #2! I thought that #2 might has been just forged but not polished, that could explain the absence of hamon. Quote
