Greetings,

I am hoping for some opinions on a mumei gunto I have had for a while. It came to me in an antique shirasaya. My thoughts are this is an arsenal made blade based on what I perceive to be a faint subassembly number. Would the file marks fall into the category of kesho-yasuri ? I am trying to better identify this sword for my own understanding. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

It looks old, I see trees, sky, a distorted face, clouds and your thumb. Ithink the Elders

Will agree ....more photos....... 😁p.s.include the shira-saya may add clues.

Looks traditionally made, but in very rough shape, try taking photos in a dark space, dark back drop, and an off set light; different camera angles will help to. As an example

Use the arrow to open to the correct page/post. Without a mei, and better pictures, it will hard to give a specific smith, maybe school.

@Ooitame Thanks for the reply. I looked at the thread you referenced and "Photographing Nihonto" by Darcy Brockbank for some tips. I did get good results experimenting with other swords, but this one was hard to capture due to the scuffs and old rust spots. I know given the condition and being mum attributing to a period may be difficult.
