Bridges Posted January 26, 2023 Report Posted January 26, 2023 Hey guys, I have removed the mekugi but I have no luck past that on the handle or hilt coming lose…Am I missing something? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 26, 2023 Report Posted January 26, 2023 It's the only thing holding the fittings to the nakago. The rig is likely 100 years old and is probably just stuck with corrosion/grime. Have you tried the wooden block and hammer method? Quote
Bridges Posted January 26, 2023 Author Report Posted January 26, 2023 I have not @Bruce Pennington, however, the auction house took a picture of the bare nakago so this piece was taken apart a little over a month ago. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 26, 2023 Report Posted January 26, 2023 I have one or 2 swords in my collection that are so tight, I have to tap the tsuka/seppa/tsuba off every time. Yours might be like that. 1 Quote
Bridges Posted January 27, 2023 Author Report Posted January 27, 2023 @Bruce Penningtonthe small screw above the button that releases the saya was the key Bruce. This screw affixes the backstrap to the handle. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 27, 2023 Report Posted January 27, 2023 5 hours ago, Bridges said: small screw I wondered about that! But I assumed it just held the fuchi to the backstrap. Well, learned something today. Quote
