drbvac Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Folks: This is in the bay but I can't find a smith by the name kunitsuga who signed with only 2 characters so wondering if this is gimei? As well does it matter that the red lacquer is all over the place and what would the porblem be with either touching it up or removing it altogether? http://cgi.ebay.com/SAMURAI-Naginata-wi ... 2|294%3A50 Quote

Soshin Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 looks to have had its tang cleaned in the past....cannot find the smith either I once purchased a mumei tanto with a good hamon and hada from eBay. Once I received it and examined it in more detail it turned out that the nakago was polished removing almost all of the rust. I estimated the age of the tanto with the polished nakago to be shinshinto. This naginata look much like my tanto. When people do this it very much removes almost all value of the Nihonto as antique art. Just my "two-cents". Thanks for reading. Yours truly, David (Soshin) Quote
