DGARBUTT Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 This is sayagaki from a recent purchase. Please assist with translation. The sayagaki not photographed says: Yamato (no) Kuni Juin Senjuin Shigehiro. The sword came right out of an estate and appears to be a Kamakura Yamato tachi. Dale Garbutt Quote
Nobody Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 The sayagaki reads ..... 後鳥羽院御番鍛冶 (Gotoba-in Goban-kaji) – (One of ) the sword smiths chosen to serve ex-Emperor Gotoba 海上六郎胤平所有 (Unagami Rokuro Tanehira shoyu) – Owned by Unagami Rokuro Tanehira (He was a poet and also an assistant Judge (1830-1916)). BTW, I cannot see the attached pictures of the blade or nakago, because they are too small. But I think that the sword may be not so good as you might expect because of such a poor sayagaki. Quote
Jacques Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 Hi, This smith's blades are extremely rare, so rare that Fujishiro cannot show one in his book and the Nihonto Koza just shows an oshigata extracted from the Koto Meijin Taizen. Some clear pictures should be savoured. :D Quote
