kusunokimasahige Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 A reverse blade ? Sorry for this silly question but after having seen about 80 Episodes of Rurouni Kenshin in 2 days I am really wondering if any Gendai smith ever did try to make one for real ! If so, are there photos of it somewhere... ? KM
Baka Gaijin Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Hi Henk - Jan, Given the limitations imposed on Swordsmiths in Japan, it is highly unlikely in my opinion that such a blade would be made, as the character falls into the area of Cosplay. However, I would recommend Tozando Budogu Ya in Kyoto, who are able to call upon their list of Specialist Swordsmiths who would probably be able (if willing) to make to order a passable Shinsaku To in that style. It won't be cheap though..... http://www.tozandoshop.com/default.asp Cheers Malcolm
shan Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Hi,I am not sure what you mean by a "reverse blade" but I used to have a Tanto called a Kubikiri has the ha on the inside of the curve of the blade as opposed to the outside curve. These are thought to be Headcutters by some schools of thought or dispatchers of wounded warriors on the field of battle. They also have a sickle like shape to them. Regards Shan
kusunokimasahige Posted November 17, 2008 Author Report Posted November 17, 2008 Indeed Shan, the same applies to a reverse blade katana.. Though Kenshin may well be in the realms of cosplay it holds a few virtues and lessons which even in present day society are important. KM
