I will be in San Francisco documenting blades for the photography/book project Japanese Swords in North American collections, August 13-17.

Helping me will be Nick Kolick (sword wrangler) and Ron Bonanno (oshigataist).

I photographed I think around 100 blades in Chicago and I am hoping that with the popularity of the show and the interest in swords in the region, that I will be able to double this.

I have information about the project here:

Along with a form to fill out to let me know what your submissions are.

I am shooting swords of all periods, including shinsakuto. The criteria represent those blades that would be top class Tokubetsu Hozon and higher. We will make oshigata of your sword if it doesn't have one, and if there is time to do them all we'll try to get them all done.

There is no charge for anything, and you will get a copy of your oshigata and photograph when I'm done. I have 160 swords to process at the moment and I can handle about 2 a day when working full time... so it is a half year to a year's worth of editing work so far, so some patience is needed in waiting for the photos.

Please consider bringing in your swords for photography if you will be attending the show, this is my last major opportunity to photograph swords, I won't be hauling out the equipment to another sword show again so this is pretty much it, other than a potential visit to the east coast. From here on in it is editing and writing, the next volume will either be Soshu or Yamashiro depending on what I shoot at this show.
