First off, I appreciate any help offered here. Thanks in advance.

 

I reciently purchased this sword and I'm trying to determine if its special and worth restoring or if it's just an average example.

I plan to keep it if its above average. Knowing who made it seems like a good start.

looks like Amahide. there is info probably available on line, he was A WWII smith, made some nice blades but had a shop that made showato and had his name on them. If i had to guess yours is a showato.

Are there any stamped marks on the nakago/tang?  If so they would help us confirm what Mark suggests.
