Shugyosha Posted December 7, 2016 Report Posted December 7, 2016 For sale: Pleasant tsuba with rugged tsuchime ground and what could perhaps be described as building materials picked out in gold and copper by way of a motif. There's a nail, a shishi dog, a mon with mitsu tomoe, some branches and some other stuff that I can't identify. The mimi is slightly bevelled and the plug in the hitsu ana is a little loose. Dimensions: 76 x 82 x 3.5 mm. Asking £150 including shipping with Paypal fees to be added.
RobertM Posted December 8, 2016 Report Posted December 8, 2016 I would say the item next to the tomoe is a roof tile. Regards
Shugyosha Posted December 9, 2016 Author Report Posted December 9, 2016 Thank's Robert. This one has always been a bit of a mystery to be honest.
Geraint Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 As is the tomoe, see here for both in situ, third image down, https://awordfromjapan.wordpress.com/2012/06/14/%E7%93%A6%E3%80%80kawara-roof-tiles/ Hope we haven't derailed your thread too much. All the best
Shugyosha Posted December 9, 2016 Author Report Posted December 9, 2016 Hi Geraint, Not a problem - I'm grateful for the information. Best, John
Baka Gaijin Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 I think the ShiShi is an end capping of a Temple roof known as an OniGawara: http://www.onmarkproductions.com/html/onigawara-goblin-tile.html
Shugyosha Posted December 10, 2016 Author Report Posted December 10, 2016 Thank's for posting that Malcolm. Ironically, I'm only starting to learn this stuff through trying to sell the item.
