Bungo Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 I don't have the big Goto book, can anyone find a sample mei so I can compare the mei on my kogai ? milt Quote
Rich T Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 but page 399 of Kinko Meikan looks good. Waki Goto I think, mid Edo. By the way, there are 4 or 5 Goto Mitsunobu listed in Haynes. If no ones beats me to it, I will scan it later on. Rich Quote
Bungo Posted December 9, 2007 Author Report Posted December 9, 2007 I check p.399, the two sample mei with kakihan don't match themselves............. must be the signatures of the dude changed over times. milt Quote
Pete Klein Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 Milt -- I don't think this is Shiorbei but Kyo Goto. I tried to look it up but couldn't find an example but I did find a listing in the Kinko Meikan. Here are scans which I believe are the same maker, mid Edo jidai. Quote
Pete Klein Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 here is the second. BTW -- mei can vary over time so they aren't always exactly the same. Quote
Pete Klein Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 OK -- I believe this is the mei of Goto Kakujo Mitsunobu, second master of the Kanbei School. He was born as the second son of Chojo in 1589. As Ritsujo Mitsuyori set up a branch family, he succeeded the Kanbei family. He is said to have been invited by The Maeda Family (Daimyo) and contributed much toward making sword guards, and given a fief of 150 koku. It is also said that Kakujo and Kenjo went to Kanazawa by turns of every other year. He died in 1656. taken from 'Studies in Kuo Goto". Quote
