pcfarrar Posted April 27, 2016 Report Posted April 27, 2016 Small shin-shinto tanto in shirasaya. The tanto has a bright nie based suguha hamon with lots of nie in the habuchi and plenty of activity. It has a very nice ko-itame jigane with chikei and ji-nie. The blade has a mitsu-mune and is ubu mumei. There is a remnant of a koshi-hi on the omote. It's in a decent old Japanese polish, has some scratches but can be well appreciated as is. No fatal flaws. The shirasaya has a few dings but is in overall good condition. The tanto has an excellent quality solid silver habaki. In my opinion the nakago has been re-patinated to make it appear older than it is. I'm pretty sure this is shin-shinto, that was made as a copy of a koto tanto. Either way its a well made good quality blade. 19.3cm nagasa, 6mm kasane SOLD
