drjoe Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 This is a shinsakuto made by Goshou Yasutaka (Nakagawa Yasutaka -- see http://www.thejapanesesword.com/services/swordsmiths/Okayama/okayama.html) in 1990. It's a stout and hefty blade with generous niku and a proportionally short nakago/tsuka with two mekugi ana that seems to have been intended for martial arts use and tameshigiri (as opposed to iai). In it's present form, the blade is in full mounts with user koshirae in a bamboo theme, silver habaki, and new leather ito. There is a minor crack in the saya, but the koiguichi is reinforced with horn so that the crack is mainly cosmetic. The polish would qualify as "tameshigiri" so that the hada appears muji and the contrast of the hamon/ji is visible but subdued (though the hada and a nioi habuchi are visible on closer inspection). It cuts through paper, but could be sharper for a user blade. Blade is signed "Goshou Yasutaka" on the omote side, "Made in Heisei 2nd Year" (1990) on the ura side. Measurements are: Nagasa: 68 cm Nakago: 210 mm Tsuka: 235 mm Motohaba: 31mm Sakihaba: 25 mm Motokasane: 9mm Sakikasane: 6mm Photos can be viewed here: http://s119.photobucket.com/user/drjoe/slideshow/Goshou%20Yasutaka Asking price is $2600 shipped to CONUS.
