Rodenbacher Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 Dear Gentlemen, I recently bought that Tsuba at the last auction of Klefisch, Cologne. It was described as Edo-Kinko, but I want to ask you as experts what you think about it. Does anybody know more details about the school or something? The Tsuba is really small, for a Tanto, just 58mm high. The detailed work of the blossoms in the mimi is stunning. A nice detail is the highly polishes seppa-daiwhich contrasts nicely to the rather ichimeji surface of the rest of the plate. This feature can be seen best in the last picture. Peter Quote
kaigunair Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Ah, I feel rusty coming back to kinko works.... Peter, part of the problem is the lighting of the photos...I can't tell if this is an iron base or shakudo! I think it is iron because of the orange rust around the waves. Am I correct? It is a quaint piece, but not top end quality. The sakura on the rim is a nice touch but pales in comparison to the works of the top end schools. I like the rendering of the sun/clouds best. Also nice that it appears to have been mounted (but really need better lighted pics). My mind may be mixing iron and kinko at the moment, but I'll throw out a "mino" school style tsuba attribution since there are other opinions posted at the moment.... Quote
Rodenbacher Posted August 6, 2014 Author Report Posted August 6, 2014 You are right, the lighting is bad - the Tsuba is dark black coloured. It's Shakudo. This picture here is more accurate concerning the colour. It is not a high end Tsuba but it's a good one and I like it. I paid less than 200.- USD for it and it was a steal. Quote
