There is a signed tsuba, however it's hard to read the characters and I don't know the meaning anyway. Help will be much appreciated. Also, I have never seen a tsuba like this before (I am a novice), and will be happy to learn from the members regarding the time, school and possibly maker.

Sorry, couldn't resist. This does not appear to be a traditionally made old tsuba. It looks to me like either amateur hobby work, or a Western interpretation of a tsuba. One only has to look at the depiction of the deer to see that they aren't done to a Japanese aesthetic. Still....it was a lot of work involved.

It is a lot better than most Chinese fakes, and easy for a beginner to mistake it for an antique. If you didn't pay a lot for it, it is an interesting trinket that may or may not have been on a sword. Not sure if the signature would be genuine by the novice, or added later. Maybe it does have some age, and just done by an amateur learning the art. :dunno:
