Darcy Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 If anyone ever stumbles onto this Chogi (Osafune Nagashige), or knows the owner, please contact me. It sold at Christie's in 2007. I try to find the owner every now and then. I have some info that goes with the sword that he needs to have, whomever he is. I put some messages up before but I have a copy of the oshigata for it now. The sword is easy to identify because it has a prominent suken in the nakago and some bonji on the flip side in the nakago as well. It has nice koshirae too with a missing tsuba I believe. So I will leave this seed and hope one day he googles for some info and finds his sword. Quote
runagmc Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 I have read that at times Nagashige was thought to be the same smith as Nagayoshi (Chogi), but that the current thinking (at least from this source) is that Nagashige was Chogi's brother... I assume you meant to write Nagayoshi here, since it looks like that's what the oshigata says... kinda hard to see, though... Anyway, about the owner... I only WISH I had it... :D Quote
Eric H Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 is that Nagashige was Chogi's brother... Have a look at Sesko Lexikon p.443 - Nagashige - to find the various speculations of his historic background. Eric Quote
Darcy Posted January 29, 2014 Author Report Posted January 29, 2014 Sorry that was a braino... I just bought a Nagashige and for this I meant to type Nagayoshi Nagashige is usually written up as the younger brother of Chogi, but the dated examples known start almost in the Kamakura period so it looks like he is coming in 10-15 years ahead of Chogi.
