SwordGuyJoe Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 All, I have checked everywhere and can't find anything on this smith. Below is a copy of the mei. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
cabowen Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 Believe he was from Tokushima. Not much available. Quote
cisco-san Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 from Markus book: Masatomo (正知), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Ōsaka – „Masatomo“ (正知), civilian name „Hiramatsu Danji“ (平松団次), he worked as rikugun-jumei-tōshō Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted March 6, 2013 Author Report Posted March 6, 2013 I don't believe this is Hiramatsu Masatomo as he used a different "tomo". Unless he used this kanji later in his career, which I think is doubtful but not impossible. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted March 7, 2013 Author Report Posted March 7, 2013 Can someone provide the kanji for "Tojin"? I have the rest (**杉王正友) and I'd like to try to search Japanese sites for the entire name. Thanks! Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted March 7, 2013 Author Report Posted March 7, 2013 Found a tachi made by him, dated 1965 and registered in Tokushima. Not sure if I'm going to find a ton more on him. http://gougai.cart.fc2.com/ca38/1941/ http://n-kosen.com/katana/B884.html Quote
cabowen Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 I already looked. You aren't going to find much- what you found is about it... Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted March 7, 2013 Author Report Posted March 7, 2013 I did find this. It was a bit tough to pin down (couldn't copy and paste) so had to take a screenshot. What does this say? From http://katananokura.jp/hpgen/HPB/entries/45.html Sorry to bug you guys, but google translate is of very little assistance. Quote
cabowen Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 It is an entry for a smith named Sugiyama Masatoshi. He was a student of both Masatomo and Kunihira. He was a Tokushima prefectural intangible cultural property. I would bet that Kawachi Kunihira would know something about Masatomo. Perhaps you can ask Paul Martin to ask him- I think he knows him well. Quote
cisco-san Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 Different smith. 正友 正和 sorry my fault Quote
