docliss Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 Does any kind member have a copy of the Moslé catalogue? Haynes describes a tsuba on p. 273, #871 of this catalogue as ‘mokkō shape iron plate tsuba a centipede carved in sunken relief, signed Murakami Sumifuru and kao, and on the reverse signed Andō Naohiro…’. I should very much like a scan of this entry if you would be so kind. With thanks, John L. Quote
Pete Klein Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 John -- the first book of the 1914 Mosle Catalogue is stored on a pdf here: http://www.nihontomessageboard.com/articles/Mosle.pdf I could not find the item you mentioned. Not all of his collection was pictured in the plates. BTW: when you go to the link it takes awhile to download. Quote
docliss Posted September 25, 2012 Author Report Posted September 25, 2012 Thank you Pete. I too looked at that posting and was unable to find the reference. I note that this only has 133 pages - perhaps there is a second catalogue? John L. Quote
Pete Klein Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 The second catalog does not have fittings. It is lacquer, clothing and other items. Mosle had a diverse collection of Japanese art forms. I once had the set and have been looking for another for some time now. Quote
Ludolf Richter Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Maybe thomeone has the 2 sales calalogues from 1948.Ludolf PS.I tried to get these catalogues for years and and would pay for copies if a member of our board has them . Quote
DirkO Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Klefish will include Mosle catalogues in their next sale (13/10): http://www.klefisch.com/index.php?page_id=4&catalog=51&catalog_cat=4539&page=0&itemid=19410 Quote
Pete Klein Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 These are the other books which go with the 1914 set: http://www.japaneseswordbooksandtsuba.c ... collection The 1932 and 1933 set are harder to find than the 1914, believe it or not. BTW -- the Klefisch auction books were available at the last auction and had a high reserve. That 500/600 E estimate is way low. The last set I saw went for $5000. Quote
Soshin Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Hi John L., You request reminded me of the following nice tsuba sold on Grey's website over the weekend: http://www.japaneseswordbooksandtsuba.com/store/holbrook-tsuba/h304-sumifuranaohiro. As Pete also linked to his website Grey maybe a good source of information. I am not that familiar with the collection. Sorry about not being much help. Yours truly, David Stiles Quote
