I think less than 40 blades have been authenticated as Masamune’s work. As recently as last year I saw two authentic Masamune blades up for sale Aoijapan.com in Japan. One was a long sword in a shirasaya that was selling for the equivalent of $600,000 USD, the other was a tanto with shriasaya and koshirae for around $80,000 USD. I’m a collector myself, and have several pieces that could fetch price close to the tanto, but I’m not crazy enough to drop that kind of coin on a blade.
