  1. Thank you! Oh I had a question because I cannot find anyone here in Texas (Dallas Fort Worth) to talk to or find any groups or shows or stores etc. I have searched and two weeks ago I emailed Txtokenkai and no reply. Do you have any suggestions? I am not an internet social media familiar person so I may not be the best at searching.
  2. I know how to edit a post but sometimes I post something and after a few minutes wish I did not post or comment and I don’t know how to delete it.
  3. As a newbie to collecting I think Rayhan does give good advice of a way of helping to avoid “mistakes” for someone like me. I’ve read all of the replies and I can’t imagine being able to identify these distinctions when looking for my first Nihonto. I think the long time collectors are maybe looking at the “suggestions” and analyzing them according to their own expertise? Of course I don’t know if this is all true but I am commenting because I do not see any replies by new collectors. I know many things I reply will be wrong but I’m not afraid to reply if I know I will get relies to explain where my thinking may be off. This is how we learn more. Thanks for everyone who has taken the time to comment in ways that are beneficial to learning and their intentions also are for this.
  4. Oh I thought you were saying don’t bother with the craft. Ok I will read it also. Oh maybe that was Grey that said that. Sorry I think I replied to wrong person
  5. I have tried to search and am having a hard time finding anyone. Although I’m not an electronic/social media/computer person. Maybe there are people here but I am not even good at navigating this site. I’m not sure what to do.
  6. Are these enough to get started and if so what order should I read them? Oops I forgot the picture…here it is Thanks!!!!
  7. I’m ok. I just had to settle down. I am actually rather serious about this. I will wait and educate myself. Just so crazy nothing has had me this worked up ever. I normally have to educate myself on almost anything I get into or any purchases. By Nihonto has my emotions and rational thinking all scrambled up. I’m 53 so it’s not a youthful fling either. I really see myself getting serious.
  8. I get the urge to buy when long time collectors like you and Rayhan recommend them but even more when you mention you almost bought it. The reason the urge is more is because I am afraid I won’t have anyone to help me with other Nihonto and give opinions and info about the blade. If you are in the forum a lot or if I see a Nihonto and have questions can I PM you and give link? I have reached out to many people and I get help but unfortunately I find out they are not honest and target me due to my ignorance and inexperience.
  9. I am going to look over all you sent. But I feel so much more relaxed after seeing some of the Nihonto sale listings. Now I can see there is not going to be a shortage of options now or in the future. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to help me. In fact I feel so much more calm now I can finally go to sleep. I have been awake for a few days looking at Nihonto and posting and talking to people. So I will have questions after I am rested and clear minded. Lol. Truly appreciate this. I am a registered nurse and I am used to helping people but not used to people actually helping me.
  10. Thanks for your help. For sure I will relax and after some time I may reach out to you again. I appreciate your assistance
  11. This is hard to pick sugata. The only blades I have and have seen in person are what are normal for modern day Chinese replica. Approx 28 inches Sori I forget but I think approx 1.5cm to 1.8cm and Chu kissaki. Truthfully I think I would like a lot of them. Ok so we can take the latest six and I would take any if other features that we will get into after this are something I like. I think I like o-kissaki of course if straighter blade and chu kissaki for more curve sori in blade. This is hard because I haven’t held a katana that is straighter. I wonder if I narrowed anything down? And technically I think the first of the last six, middle one that is shorter and nakago is short. Probably like a wazakashi? If a wazakashi that has longer blade would have better features and be nicer for less price I can go that way also. Sorry it’s hard to explain this one. It’s easier for me to maybe pick other things like hamon etc. But maybe o-kissaki with a hamon that works with it. I will know when I see a Hamon and can visualize it on the kissaki
  12. Yes I need to relax and try to narrow my target. It is so hard when you find a new passion but need more knowledge and help to make decisions. Takes patience. I see all those Nihonto and my heart starts racing but my mind is also at 100mph and unable to properly think critically without enough knowledge. And then I have met people who target me because of my ignorance and vulnerability. Luckily I’m able to navigate some of those obstacles now that I’m a little more aware. But it would be nice to have some trusted help. It seems almost a necessity starting out. That’s why I can say years from now when I’m able I will help newcomers for sure.
