  1. Thank you 😋👍🏼 A “heavy built” agemaki will not let the ukezutsu fit comfortably in the (machi uki?) photo attached. And seen videos from the Soma Noma Oi where this was done as an alternative/compromise 🤷🏼‍♂️ Seems to work 👍🏼
  2. The cultural, historic knowledge, skill and craftsmanship of samurai armour has always inspired me to learn more 🙇🏻🙇🏻🙇🏻🙇🏻 Every step of production, every craft, every material and skill needed to produce a great armour is fascinating to me 😁👍🏼
  3. Some more photos from the man cave 😆 Currently just adding detail to my replica armour but itching to start some restoration on older stuff. I have some “Edo Period” kote in not too bad shape and looking to replace areas of the kusari loss and Kotezuke no takahimo. I’ll post some photos before I start and hopefully get advice 👍🏼
  4. Some “enhancements” of my replica armour and learning how to recognise genuine historical armour.
  5. Hi Steve. Samurai Armour is new to me too. One thing I appreciate about this forum, is the honesty and knowledge of the people here.! Genuine Katchūshi 🙇🏼‍♂️
  6. A nice detail that makes a neat finish when Egawa edges could look “uneven” or “rough”.! …I love it 😁👍🏼 And adding it to some of my “upgrades” to my own armour. Thank you Uwe 🙇🏼‍♂️ For "水引" (Mizuhiki) water. Wave? 🤷🏼‍♂️
  7. Another build. Kachi mushi.
  8. I’ll look on every detail of this item and break down all its materials. And construction. Just to learn 😁👍🏼
  9. I’ve just gone for this off eBay. Also has the “piping” detail. Single Osode, hon kozane. No Kanamono. But nice display (hopefully Edo) item. Something to learn from 😋
  10. Thank you Uwe for your reply. And understand it’s a detail that appears on many armours! But one I love and think it adds a quality detail. I’ll endeavour to research it and try to find out more 🙇🏻
  11. Hi Uwe. Thanks 😁👍🏼 What I was wondering is, was it carried over from Osode? The white and orange “pipping” seams to only appear on tosei sode or dou. 👍🏼
  12. Finished 🙂
  13. I’ve worked more on the “enhancements” of the sode. I’ve looked up these details and not found much. When was this “trim” introduced? Does it date armour? Is it a specific katchushi?
  14. This is the work so far. Updates to follow x
  15. Started an “embellishment” of my.. Kiritsuke Iyo Zane. Sugake odoshi Sode. (Is that correct discrimination?) I’ll let the photos show my efforts 🙇🏻
  16. Another (hand built) maedate 前立. (Thank you Piers D 😁👍🏼) Worked at odd times over two weeks. Visually inspired from the statue of Toda Ujikane at Ogaki Castle.
  17. My girlfriend said “Either the bike and the armour goes or I do!” …. I miss her sometimes….🤔
  18. Hi, I’d like to set up a YouTube channel and make some videos at some point. And a few travel videos too. Japan and Thailand are in the near future 😋👍🏼
  19. A new creation to my collection is this. A sun Maidate. Two days work. Wood base. Gold leaf finish. I’ve made a few maidate and thoroughly enjoy making them 😁
  20. Thank you all.!! I’m compelled to learn as much as much as I can. From an appreciation and love of real samurai armour… And now with a group of people who know, understand and appreciate real historic armour. 😁 koberi 小縁 translate as “Little stitching” ??? 👍🏼 Regards Chris x
  21. Enhancing the “trims” on my Haidate as the printed pattern is quite faded. See photos. Any thoughts? Question. Part names of Haidate. The leather reinforcement strips I think are called chikara gawa. But are the additional edge trims (as added on some examples) called Kawa Fukurin? Also, is there a name for the “cross and grass” motif? And what’s the origin of this pattern? Thanks 😁👍🏼 Chris
  22. Not all my work. Maybe half. Eboshi Kabuto and dou are Iron Mountain. The armour on the right 1960’s replica with Edo period Osode. Recent additions are scratch built “tatami” mats on wheels and stands for the suneate. Two of my pet hates are suneate falling over, and not getting at the back to clean 🤣
  23. My “collection” to date.
  24. Hi, Thanks all for positive comments and encouragement 😁👍🏼 Bugyotsuji. The plastic “click” buckle is an experiment. Fed up having to tie hakama for Iaido 🤣… and next job is add restraining tabs to the haidate so not flapping about. Uwe. Everything is built from scratch and added a couple of photos of them. Also another Haidate photo of the cord now added. And “lifting” the detail on the leather trim. Regards. Chris 🙇🏻
