    That is what I was thinking until I saw the horimono. The hormone has distinct carving marks too so it looks genuine but I've just never seen a blade like this one.

    I have found evidence that the golden tassels were likely just bugle tassels. This tassel on the bugle below is an exact color and material match with my golden tassel on my gunto. While this may not be the case for all it was for mine

    Ignoring the fittings how does the blade look? The hamon doesn’t look acid etched and I think I can see some hada. My eye is far from trained though

    I don’t have the sword but the menuki look like the ones on my 98 gunto

    The menuki look genuine gunto so I assumed remount from old gunto blade

    I was wondering how one would go about removing one of these Ashi. Also I was wondering what situation would have the ashi hanger ring forcibly torn off. I was thinking maybe pulled of a dead imperial soldiers belt by an American soldier which would explain the signs of force (bent ashi rig around hole)

    I saw this kanji date online but when I googled the era name 大心 (?) nothing came up

    A slight issue with this is that 国 is a shin jitai character putting this inscription at a post war period
