  1. Another question from a rookie. An online dealer refers to this sword as "Japanese Samurai Sword Tsuba - SHINGUNTO KATANA 1944". Why would the term Tsuba be included in the description?
  2. I am not questioning your information on sword use of Break Free. I would like to add that I have used Break Free for many years on my antique firearms collection with no problems....not a speck of rust and no gum formation.
  3. I was simply looking for information....I am new to this all and have no idea where to go for restoration. I did a google and came up with this one and Fred Lohman, among others. I don't post jokes. I have also considered mounting the blade in a shirasaya.
  4. Have any of you forum members heard of "Swords of Shi-han" of San Antonio, Texas. They have some very reasonable prices on repair and restoration. Thanks
  5. I have read in several places that Rem Oil and Break Free were o.k. to use on a blade. Is this true? I have used Bread Free on my Luger collection and it has done a good job protecting against rust. Thanks for the input. BTW I currently use mineral oil on my blades. Never mind....I found the oiling discussion using search. Thanks
  6. For a beginner, what doew "Tango no kami naomichi" mean? Thanks
  7. Have any of you done business with Owazamono.com? He is a dealeer from New York. Any comments will be appreciated.

  10. I will take a new set of photos of the blade and send them to you next week. My wife and camera are in Chicago for a week. Thanks.
  11. Thanks to you all for your input. I am interested in what style of jigane this sword has. Here is a picture of the other side with different lighting. After looking at some web sites, To my eye, the jigane looks more like the Konuka hada. What would you class it as? This reminds me of when I started attending "Luger University", the tuition was expensive but I sure did learn a great deal......but boy are these blades beautiful.
  12. I already posted on the translation site to obtain a translation of the characters. One forum member told me it was not good, and one collector I know told me it was good. I thought I would post more pics and see what you all think. I have never done this before, and I hope these pics are what you need. I purchased the blade from a reputable dealer last week. I do not plan on selling in the foreseeable future, so feel free to comment. [att
  13. Please explain what you mean? I am a total beginner and the character looks the same to me. Thanks for your help
  14. It is a long Shinto Wakizashi.
  15. I just bought my first blade and would appreciate it if someone could help me translate the markings on the tang. The lighting makes the sword look different than it is, it is acually a rust color. Thanks in advance.
