Hi guys, sorry for the late response. I do believe it to be a genuine surrender tag. It was folded in half obviously for a long time, i used new cotton string to hold it in place on the saya.. but these photos are how i got it originally. The writting looks fresh because it was folded so only the back got stained. The seller i bought it off is certain its a genuine surrender tag. I do too as the tag shows age appropriate wear. I will be doing further research on this. Thank You to everyone for Your help.

I just spoke to the seller showa22. They said it is definately an genuine surrender tag.. the blade is actually a traditionally made blade by kunimitsu.

Hi there, it was a ebay purchase from showa22. I know His descriptions can be off. Ive bought a few swords off Him several times before over the years. Never had an issue with authenticity. Just not accurate condition description. The seller is from America. The cotton does have a large crease down the middle. Its a bit of a mystery, if it was not a genuine surrender tag, id rather take it off as the sword itself and fittings are right. But at the same time i dont want to throw it away incase its genuine or like mentioned re written.

P.S : Apparently there is no ww2 Japanese rank of Colonel in the IJN, its equal is Captain.

Hi there, i have a new purchased navy sword to my collection. There is a surrender tag on the saya. When i bought this sword the translation was : Colonel Matsui Shimakichi, 146 Miyajima, Saeki - gun Hiroshima. However after research i can not find this exact officer. It comes back as a possible mistranslation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance.

hi Paul, yes i will be patient, for now i will source the missing parts like the tsuka, tsuba, seppa... ive decided to keep the sword and in time get it polished. im so grateful for everyones help.. main thing is it can be restored.if thats the case. kind regards, Andy

brilliant! thanks Lewis. i think i will stick with this sword and find a polisher. i owned an Emura 5 years ago, it was mint. sold it for 5000.00. got this one for 550.00 au. I Love His swords.

hi Paul, so its saveable but wont be perfect on the kissaki? i want to save this sword, but i dont have thousands to spend on a the kissaki and polish.. does anyone know some one who can help out?
