  1. Thank you all very much for your help with identifying this. Sincerely, Chad
  2. Here's a pic of the other side of the nakago.
  3. I recently purchased this tanto, but I don't know anything about it. I thought it may have been made during WWII, but I was told it could be much older. Does anyone know about how old this tanto is, what part of Japan it was made in, and what it would've been designed for?
  4. Any recommendations on who to have polish it?
  5. Here are some more pics from the other side. Chad
  6. I took a few more pictures so you could see the shirasaya and the hamon a little better. If it had a better polish it’d be easier to see. The lighting isn’t the greatest also. Hopefully I can get it polished sometime. Does anyone have any recommended polishers? Also, I only have a few blades so far and none of them are papered. Do you think this one would be worthwhile?
  7. I have no idea if someone tried polishing it or not. I picked it up from a gun collector at a show in what looks like a new shirasaya.
  8. Bruce, Once again, thank you for your help. I looked in the locations you told me too and and a few “check mark” shaped stamps. Here are a few pictures of them. Do you know how many patter 7’s were made and the approximate time frame they were made. I figured there’d be a lot of information on internet about them, but I haven’t found much. Sincerely, Chad
  9. Bruce, Those are really small inspection marks. I found what looks like one in the pics below on the fuchi, opposite of the latch, but I’ll look again at the locations you referenced. Can you tell what it is? Thank you very much for your help. Sincerely, Chad
  10. I’m really new to the hobby, so I couldn’t even guess if it were shortened or not.
  11. It didn’t come with a pole or sheath, just a shirosaya. Chad
  12. Thank you all very much for the help with my yari. It doesn’t have a signature on the tang. I was nervous about buying it because I’m a new collector, didn’t know anything about it, and was concerned about paying too much. I gave $350 for it. Was that a good price? Sincerely, Chad
  13. I’m new to collecting and have a lot to learn. I recently picked up a few swords and a yari. The person I purchased the yari from didn’t know anything about it. I’d definitely welcome any information anyone could give me on it. It doesn’t have a signature. Any idea when it was made, by who, or what area?
  14. Thank you very much for your help. I’m glad I lucked out and found a rare sword. I’m very new to the hobby and still have a great deal to learn. Sincerely, Chad
  15. I’m very new to collecting and I recently bought this WWII samurai sword, but I don’t know anything about it. Does anyone know: 1) what type it is? 2) what pattern is it? 3) who or what arsenal made it? 4) approximately when was it made? 5) how many of these were made? 6) what military branch would’ve used it? 7) any other interesting information regarding it? Thank you very much for your help.
