  1. This one I want to keep. I need a good idea of what to offer the estate for it. Sorry this one isn't in great focus
  2. I have one that my wife will take as I acquire the next.
  3. I was considering keeping this one, but there are three I like better. So this one goes, too. It appears the blade was shortened, as many of these were, but I don't know what from.
  4. I couldn't get the archive to open. I doubt the sword is worth much at all. I've had one low offer. I'll take it to a show here and see if it does a bit better. 23" blade, so long wakizashi, and everything is worn.
  5. I've polished repros. Are you suggesting a window? Or just some fine cleaning of the surface?
  6. The Naval sword several people are interested in.
  7. Most have been spoken for. I have an offer on this one and the next. Then the last three are ones I'm considering keeping, if I can get help with a fair value to offer the estate for them.
  8. I think I've seen another of his blades a few years ago.
  9. Worn, but traditional. It doesn't appear to be a high end piece. I see at least two forging flaws on the shinogi-ji. The hamon is faint and I'm terrible at getting pictures of them. Any information appreciated.
  10. Copper shouldn't affect blueing if it's not used too heavily, and any copper residue will clean off with Hoppe's gun cleaning solvent.
  11. Did the best I could for the hamon, and it does appear to have a second one from retemper.
  12. I've got a bare incandescent bulb I'm going to try to use to illuminate hamon
  13. I'm back from a lengthy trip. Sorry for the delay. Here's more pictures. I can't get a good image of the hamon. I understand how to do it. I've had 100% failure on getting any image that shows anything. I'm sorry. There is no combination of light source and skill here that will yield one. Two members here have called dibs on this one. Mor information is appreciated. I see additional material scarf welded to the tang behind the mei.
  14. Yes, that was one of my considerations when I was trying to reach his niece and the attorney. There's some amazing stuff that needs to be with collectors or museums, not in dumpsters or with bundled lots at an auction.
  15. I'll be happy to post stuff there as it's identified and either gets offers or valuation. Of the 14, six interest me, but I can probably only justify two. The others are for sale, payable to his estate.
  16. I'll try to get one tomorrow. It appears to be silver layered over copper.
  17. Forged when? And is the mei correct?
  18. BTW, he was a retired USAF navigator who spent time in Okinawa during and after Vietnam. I gather some of his Japanese artifacts were acquired then. This sword almost appears to have two hamon. The butt end of the tang appears to have additional metal scarf welded onto it.
  19. Definitely anyone here has first dibs, and discounted or free shipping.
  20. Eventually at the big gun show here, Pennsic, DragonCon, my website, and via fora of interested buyers. The good ones I prefer to keep off eBay. As they get identified I'm open to offers. I'm far more experienced with European blades.
