  1. Thanks everyone. As always, much appreciated. What I took away from this is that these labels, titles, cant be a bad thing. Allan
  2. Thomas, Here is what I am responding to. I have been looking this Yorinao for a long time. Tokugawa Jikki May 15, 1657 The Shogun (Ietsuna) goes to Abe Bungo no Kami's residence and there "test" a Shinto. It is witnessed by Omori Shinano no Kami Yorinao, a Denyaku and the Magsitrate of Weapons. I see this Abe in front of other names and assume it is a title of some sort? Thanks for your response. I think you actually translated this Nakago for me about three years ago. Allan
  3. Dear Members: Looking for a definition for a Denyaku ... and the responsibility of the Magestrate of Weapons for the Shogun? Also the title of Abe? Thanks, Allan
  4. Anyone want to take a crack at this. I know much of it but there are areas of confusion. Imperial Grant to Omori Shinano no Kami Fugiwara Yorinao. 1619. Made by Kuniyasu. Fighting action in 1652. But there is more. Regards, Allan
  5. Thanks again Martin! I've owned this blade twice over the past 30 years and just now noticed the Oite Azuchi? More information regarding a blade is always exciting. Now, what exactly was he saying? I have not seen this following a date? The blade has papers. Allan
  6. Thanks Martin. that was my hope but Azuchi Castle wasn't built until 1576. My blade is dated 1573? Can I assume Azuchi is the Place the castle was built? Allan
  7. Hello Members, first time to post on this beautiful site! Working on a date that reads 1573 and ends in Oite Azuchi? How should I read these last two characters? In Azuchi as a place? In Momoyama refering to a time? This is a Bizen Genzaemonjo Sukesada if that matters? Thanks in advance, Allan
  8. Thank you Donovan and Brian. I will get a picture of my Nakago up this weekend. Good idea. Regards, Allan
  9. I am looking at a Soshu blade that is pointing toward Hasebe. That is, hitatsura, O-itame with a strong masame in the yakiba and toward the mune. The problem is, it is a 19.5" wakizashi with a Funa-Gata Nakago that appears Ubu and Shinto. The only way around this is if the blade is O-suriage, which there is indications it might be. For example, the hamon runs all the way to the rust and, even more striking, the shinny area of the blade runs under the kiri file marks of the nakago approximately one inch. My question is, are there O-suriage blades where they have gone to the trouble to totally reshape the Nakago to resemble the original ... or that is consistent with the Nakago of the representative school?
