Ron STL Posted November 11, 2018 Report Posted November 11, 2018 Maybe this mounted wakizashi will be of interest to one of the newer members. It need some restoration -- polish, missing kurikata, kozuka. The mei was recently discussed under "translations." Niji-mei reads: KANEHIDE and appears to be one of the sue-koto Mino Seki smiths, possibly the early 1500s smith. I found the blade itself to be rather interesting and worthy of doing the restoration needed, especially for a newer collector with a tight budget. Fittings are very nice and what I call "average-good" quality. The tsuba was not with the sword but I've added the one shown since it looks good with the koshirae. I'll see about attaching some quick photos along with a record sheet of the sword which describes details of the sword. The one photo shows the only small opening on the blade. Price? I think a fair price would be US$2,000 but I'm happy to work on that. No well-meaning insults will offend me I'd prefer to keep any interest buyers within the USA just to keep shipping simple. Ron STL Posted November 11, 2018 Author Report Posted November 11, 2018 Kanehide wakizashi...I see the record sheet could not be attached. I can always send this to anyone as a PM if interested. Ron STL
Ron STL Posted November 12, 2018 Author Report Posted November 12, 2018 I was going to add measurements of the sword, but realized the record sheet did actually get attached to the first posting. The photographs tend to make the condition of the blade much worse than it really is, which can turn people off, I'm sure. What defects show up do not appear serious and should not cause a problem for a polisher. The only opening that would not be removed is in the photo along with my finger (to show size of opening). Again, I hope the sword might find a home with a newer collector with limited budget. There are stateside polishers around who could do the restoration. Will attach a few more photos while I'm here.
