Petteri Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Hi guys, My name is Petter, I'm a beginner when it comes to Nihonto and I was hoping to get some help here. Can anyone identify this mei, or say which time period the blade is from? I've tried using the kanji guides, but it's very hard as the photo is unclear. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks! leo Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Dear Petter, these are probably the Kanji: 寿命 This school was active during Koto and Shinto times, mainly in Mino, but also in other provinces. The nakago looks late Koto or early Shinto. Pictures of the blade are essential though, to determine school and age. Regards Quote
Petteri Posted September 14, 2011 Author Report Posted September 14, 2011 Hi Martin, Thanks so much for helping me out here! Much appreciated. The sword is a short wakizashi. Here is one picture: and another: Quote
cabowen Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Signature is indeed Jumyo. Looks to be a late Koto or early Shinto blade. Also seems to be shortened a bit. As others have said, this signature was used in Mino Province for many hundreds of years, from koto up through WWII, thus it is difficult to pinpoint the exact generation. The kanji combination have a felicitous meaning (long life )and were thus very popular. Quote
Jimmy R Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 This sword is for sale on eBay right now by a seller named jikkiden. Jim Quote

Petteri Posted September 14, 2011 Author Report Posted September 14, 2011 Hi guys, Sorry should have mentioned I was asking because I was considering an eBay item. The pics are from eBay so it's not like I was hiding it. Same seller is selling four swords that his grandpa apparently brought back from wwII. His grandpa must have had a discerning eye :-) Quote
Petteri Posted September 14, 2011 Author Report Posted September 14, 2011 And thanks for the interesting info!! Funny how the swords have traveled over the years Quote
