paxaut Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Hello all, I am taking a stab in the dark with this translation and would appreciate any input. My best amateurish guess is: 紀 政次 (Ki Masatsugu) My showa references are sadly lacking so I have the internet to rely on for oshigata examples. I would provide more pictures of the blade if I though it would help, but with the thick layer of oxidation and the very tip of the kissaki missing there isn't much else to see. Thank you. SwordGuyJoe Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 The date (on picvture 12) is August, 1942 (Showa Jyu Shichi Nen hachi gatsu ?HI?) I think you're right on Masatsugu, but I am not sure on the "Ki". Someone will be able to help you further. Quote
cabowen Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 You are correct. Ki Masatsugu. He was from Kyushu and from a line of smiths who used Ki in their mei. They are well regarded. I once owned a Ki Masahiro blade made in early Showa. It was quite nice..... Too bad about the condition.... Quote
