Nostro Titus Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 Hi all. I just thought i'd start out with a few questions. Regarding the various construction methods (kobuse gitae, honsanmai etc.), are there any sources in literature that specify which traditions and schools used which. Related to this, I always wondered why many Mino Seki blades seemed to have masame in the shinogi ji and mokume in the ji and this pretty much ties in with the first question. Any comments on how polishers contributed to this knowledge is also very welcome. Thanks in advance, Nostro Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 some information can be found in one pamphlet titled "Laminating Techniques in Japanese Swords", published by WM Hawley (ISBN 0-910704-54-6). Unfortunately the literature sources for the pamphlet article are not cited. Most likely all were written in Japanese. http://www.wmhawley.com fd Quote
Nostro Titus Posted August 30, 2006 Author Report Posted August 30, 2006 Thanks for that. One thing listed in another WM Hawley text is 'surume gitae' (squid forging). It was defined as steel being folded like a cooked squid. Anyway, time to start digging deeper into the literature. Nostro Quote
