John C Posted June 23 Report Posted June 23 Ouch. Four tsuba for sale on Shopgoodwill already at 400 dollars. At least one is a clear fake. Two might be real. But 400 dollars??? One has a weird cutout around the nakago ana. https://shopgoodwill.com/item/267845520 John C. Quote
cluckdaddy76 Posted June 23 Report Posted June 23 I would stay away, if you have $400 to spend on tsuba, you can do much better than these four. The two on the right are most likely cast pieces and the two on the left may be authentic (POSSIBLY), but low quality. Personally, I would pass if the lot was even $100, these are not desirable pieces. Jason Quote
John C Posted June 23 Author Report Posted June 23 Oh I have no intention of buying. Just testing my judging skills on real vs fake. But I also thought 400 was over the top for these. John C. Quote
Spartancrest Posted June 24 Report Posted June 24 Well I think Jason has it correct, the two on the right are indeed fakes - however when you look at the prices some on eBay are charging for one fake, the $400 for two "real" plus two throwaways is not that bad! https://www.ebay.com/itm/287338935344 Also found in the Cornell University Museum https://emuseum.cornell.edu/search/98.103.017 Like many museums it has several cast fakes! You are right to give the auction a miss - or you could ask if the lot can be split, unlikely as how would the owner get rid of the fakes! Quote
