J-Dubb627 Posted July 12 Report Posted July 12 Hello everyone, I’m reaching out to the community in hopes of gathering any documented information regarding a sword that was reportedly gifted by Matsudaira Tadanao (the daimyo of Echizen and grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu) to Nishio Munetsugu following the Siege of Osaka (Summer Campaign, 1615). According to some sources, Munetsugu claimed the head of Sanada Yukimura and presented it to Ieyasu. Although Ieyasu reportedly scolded him for boasting, Munetsugu was ultimately rewarded with increased land holdings (1,800 koku) and a sword said to have been gifted by Tadanao. I am currently researching this episode in depth and would appreciate: Any references in Japanese or English sources Suggestions for where this gift may have been recorded (clan records, daimyo archives, Edo-period texts, etc.) Any known swords in circulation (especially signed Yamato Daijō Fujiwara Masanori) that might be associated with this historical moment If anyone has come across mentions of this story in historical records, NBTHK notes, Japanese publications, or has insights into the relationship between Masanori and Tadanao, I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance for your time and any leads! Quote
