JeanEB Posted May 24 Report Posted May 24 For those that are into Aoe school, this TH ko-aoe is going for auction right now. A little on the shorter side at 65cm nagasa but beautiful nonetheless https://www.jauce.com/auction/u1185858084 having passed TH in 2020, I am guessing the owner tried for juyo once or twice and failed, so he's unloading it 1 Quote
Rawa Posted May 25 Report Posted May 25 @Jussi Ekholm opinion please. Was this retempered?. Estimation above 1milion? Quote
Rayhan Posted May 25 Report Posted May 25 Ah Aoe...my love ❤️ There is no middle ground with Aoe, you get very good or very meh. Always adhere to the availability for Aoe, you get better Aoe. 1 Quote
Rawa Posted May 25 Report Posted May 25 I wonder if very good are still available for public buyers Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted May 25 Report Posted May 25 I think it is legitimate sword, just the condition seems rough even for me (and I can close my eyes on lot of stuff). I feel NBTHK sees this as Early - Middle Kamakura tachi. The NBTHK expert panel seems to have put Ko-Aoe as the attribution for this one. Unfortunately this Yahoo JP dealer always has small sized pictures. Would have been nice to see high quality pictures at the end of the nakago where there might be remnants of signature. This sword has also appeared at Yahoo JP in late 2022 (as I do backups on my files I could check it). Here is for comparison what I personally see as quite nice Ko-Aoe attributed mumei tachi: https://web.archive.org/web/20240921040517/https://www.samurai-nippon.net/SHOP/P-452.html Of course the price will be very different on the one for Yahoo JP one but I felt the nice one was also surprisingly "affordable". The term used in "" as the sword was still fairly expensive but I feel it was well priced for what it was and sold quite fast in 2024. 3 Quote
Rawa Posted May 25 Report Posted May 25 Ha ha I was sure that If sth is re-enlisted you would know. Quote
JeanEB Posted May 25 Author Report Posted May 25 Marcin, while the condition is rough as Jussi mentioned, I don't think this could have been retempered. I don't think NBTHK papers saiha blades unless they are for sure by a grandmaster and worth the conservation effort. Quote
Rawa Posted May 25 Report Posted May 25 I would tell that all kamakura period which is not gimei will get insta tokuho. Quote
