I have always been fascinated by the craftmanship in the Japanese swords in general,but combined with my interest in ww2 it has been guided to the field of shin guntos. I collect mainly ww2 german and swedish militaria but I am now hoping to add at least one shin gunto to this collection (if I know myself there will be more..). I am looking for a shin gunto with ancestoral gendaito in good condition. If it has a family mark and provenance even better! Preferably would be a dealer in EU since it helps to avoid the dreaded 25% swedish customs fee.. but If the right sword comes up I am willing to skip this criteria. AntiquarianCat Posted May 24, 2021 Report Posted May 24, 2021 Hello Alex, I think this might satisfy your requirements, if you want I can also send the Torokusho and Japanese export paperwork it had. Also, it’s an old family blade but technically it’s a Shinto period blade (likely made around 1670 give or take a couple of decades) not a gendai. Forgive me if I’m mistaken but I thought if it was an older than 100 year old and sword, your custom fees would be lower than otherwise.

Koto would also be nice, but realistically I think my budget won't allow for that atm. The thing that makes me wan't to wait a little longer before jumping on buy, is that I would preferably want the blade to be marked and not mumei & in a perfect world have a family mon - other than that this katana has all that I am looking for. Regarding customs fee that is true with the fee of items 100years old! It cuts in half, I didn't think of it like that - too used dealing with ww2 items;P I'll keep searching and reading up a bit more, and if I change my mind I will sure get in touch! Best regards Alex
