nihonto-do Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Gendaito "Hizen Kuni Masatsugu" Type - Katana Certificate - NTHK (June 2015) Period – Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989) Province - Hizen Master - Hizen no Kuni Masatsugu” (肥前国正次) Mei: 1 side - “Hizen Kuni Masatsugu saku kore” (肥前国正次作之) 2 side - 昭和38年2月吉日 (February 1963) Full length in the mounting (Shirasaya) – 96.1cm Full length of the strip – 84.9cm Nagasa – 64.1cm Motohaba – 3.1cm Sakihaba – 2.1cm Motokasane – 0.7cm Sakikasane – 0.5cm Sori – 1.6cm Info: This Gendaito is made by Taguchi Kiichi. It is signed as "Hizen Kuni Masatsugu" and made in 昭和38年2月吉日 (February 1963) . Masatsugu was born in July, 1904 and learned swordmaking from his father, Taguchi Ichitaro. He also studied under Kurihara Akihide and won many awards including the Gold Metal at the 5th Nihonto Denrankai. He worked as a Rikugun Jumei Tosho from 1941 to 1945. He is listed in Gendai Toko Meikan, pp.145 and John slough's book, pp.106-107. He was rated as the 1 million yen smith at Toko Taikan. P.S. You can see more photos on the site. Thanks!
