Thekirsh Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 Gents, I have been sent a few photos of these fittings and would appreciate any feedback on the maker. Quality appears very good to me but know little about fittings. Thanks Simon K Quote
John A Stuart Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 There were some late artisans that made export class tousogu that are unrecorded. 規綱 Noritsuna (Mikou??) is such, I believe. John Quote
Thekirsh Posted August 17, 2014 Author Report Posted August 17, 2014 Thanks John, That lines up with the blade having atabori, probably also done for export. Cheers Simon K Quote
John A Stuart Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 保卯六月為山本大夫囑 Not sure what this means...; maybe... guaranteed made year of the hare June (sixth month) for Doctor Yamamoto by request. John Quote
Thekirsh Posted August 18, 2014 Author Report Posted August 18, 2014 Again, thanks John. This would put it above export quality I guess, the owners are sure all fittings are solid silver. Cheers Simon K Quote
John A Stuart Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 I have a wakizashi koshirae all fitted in solid silver handachi style that is quite nice. It has an unsigned Jumyo blade. It may have been made for a merchant class person or for export to a rich traveler. There were a lot of artisans making both. Yours is not dockside typical Hamamono and I didn't mean that it was by saying for export. Some stuff that was exported was very good craft. Dr. Yamamoto could have been a, if not rich, well enough to do man wanting a nice little sword. John Quote
