Robert Housley Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 I purchased a WWII seki stamped blade with what I think is a nice hamon. When the blade arrived I found that the hamachi was chipped and slightly rounded. I can return the blade, but I was thinking this may be repairable. Any thoughts on this would be great. It is a small injury. If you look closely at the picture, you can see it because you know it is there. The other pic shows part of the hamon. Thanks, Robert H. Quote
Geraint Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Hi Robert, Why bother to do either? It might look worse with the habaki removed but it is hardly a problem visually and although a repair is possible by moving the machi a little up the blade it would certainly not be worth the expense and any attempt to have an amateur repair would be far worse than what is there already. There is an old saying, "Enjoy the blade form the habaki forward," Not meant to apply to this but why not? All the best. Quote
