Thekirsh Posted May 19, 2013 Report Posted May 19, 2013 The nakago on this blade is unfortunatly rusted but the rest of it is OK. I would appreciate confirmation on my own translation and help with the kanji on the right hand side which has got me totally stumped. I believe it is signed Izumi diajo fujiwara ason Kuniteru...............maybe. It is dated Tenmei second or third year The blade has a nagasa of 695 mm, sori of 15mm and a hefty kasane of 8.2 mm. Thanks Simon K Quote
cabowen Posted May 19, 2013 Report Posted May 19, 2013 元祖長国ヨリ七代 This is the 5th generation Izumi Daijo Fujiwara Kuniteru. The above means he is the 7th generation from the founder Nagakuni. He often inscribed this on his blades. Quote
Thekirsh Posted May 20, 2013 Author Report Posted May 20, 2013 Hi Chris, Thanks for the help, it all makes sense now, much appreciated. The blade was actually sold to me with the translation “made by the swordsmith Fujiwarakuni” Cheers Simon K Quote
