CurtisR Posted April 19, 2013 Report Posted April 19, 2013 The second Tsuba my friend purchased with the Dragon Tsuba....to my eye it is also original, nice patina and very simple desig, with fairly fine inlay work. There is one scratch however, just above the nakago ana ---not deep but there. No signs of it being a casting either. My guess o age would be late 1700's to mid 1800's... Any thoughts are appreciated! Curtis R. Quote
Lance Posted April 20, 2013 Report Posted April 20, 2013 Your age estimate looks correct, design looks like shows Hotei and a mouse, both symbols of luck and prosperity, with a little bit of humor thrown in, Hotei is sometimes depicted with Jewels laid out or in his bag, and the mouse is leaving his own little "Jewels" ? http://art.thewalters.org/detail/35445/ ... ith-hotei/ http://www.buddhamuseum.com/traveller-mouse_13.htm Regards, Lance Quote
