Deron Douglas Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 I just found this on Digg.com. Still watching it so I can't vouch for the whole thing. But it's interesting. http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles/101 ... atana.html Quote
BC Smith Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 It's one of the best TV programs that I have seen so far, it's from National Geographic channel called Samurai Sword and has a great few minutes of Gassan Sadatoshi working at the forge and scenes of a tatara in action. Those in the UK can see the full program on National Geographic on the 13th May 12.00am. Bernie Quote
AndreasU Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 Really nice Video, Does someone know where to download the full resolution video? Not the one that can be shown on that side because its poor quality! Andreas Quote
Deron Douglas Posted May 7, 2007 Author Report Posted May 7, 2007 I finished watching it on Friday, then downloaded it and made an AVI. The quality isn't much better. But it's better then nothing until I can find a better version. I'm going to check the National Geographic site and see if I can purchase the full DVD. Yes, it is an excellent video. Worth keeping. BC Smith Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Hi Deron, already checked to see if this is for sale, no luck though, there is a decent copy on the net but that would be a pirate version! Bernie Quote
Deron Douglas Posted May 7, 2007 Author Report Posted May 7, 2007 Thanks Bernie, yes I wasn't able to find it either... BTW... the picture attached is a screen capture from the video... does this look like a chinese fake to anyone... or just me? it seems funny Quote
BC Smith Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Hi Deron, funny you should show that but further into the program a comparison of a katana and european sword is made and the katana looks like a chinese made Hanwei practical plus katana in fact it is used in a few scenes,so your guess is as good as mine :? Deron Douglas Posted May 8, 2007 Author Report Posted May 8, 2007 I didn't notice that, but I'll look for it again. Yes, I thought it was pretty strange that the NG would use fake swords for the show. Perhaps they didn't want to chance ruining a "real" nihonto? Deron Quote
Stever Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 I think is most likely that they wanted to use something that looks good for the camera, i.e. highly visible hamon. I think most here are aware of the issues surrounding trying to get good pictures of nihonto, let alone the hassle that video must present. Just appealing to the masses, I suspect. cheers, /steve Quote
roninjje Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 is that the computer generated one they then used as a cutaway? Quote
