  1. Phillip, I thank you for your quick response and translation of the cloth tag. I have had this sword for over 20 years and have always wondered what that writing translated to. If I would not have stumbled upon this website I probably would never know. Thanks again. Mike
  2. Hello everyone, I am brand new to this forum and brand new to learning about Japanese swords, so forgive me if I sound naive when speaking about Japanese swords. I have had in my possession for many, many years, 2 NCO shin gunto swords. One of the swords is an early made sword as the number on the blade and scabbard is 275. The scabbard has the early brass end(drag? not sure of the Japanese term) and copper handle. The loop on the end of the handle is leather, not metal as on my other sword. Attached to the sword's tsuba(?) is a cloth tag with hand written characters. I have absolutely no idea what they read and would like a translation. I am certainly curious to know if this is personal information, a prayer or what is written on the tag. Anyway, this is the basic background of this sword. I certainly do appreciate any help that might be offered in regards to this matter. Mike B
