Just posting the close up photos I received from the auctioneer before it was sold off. Thought some would find them as eye pleasing as I did. Jan -
Nihonto? Japanese Naval sword for sale
Jan Pirecki replied to Jan Pirecki's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Pardon me Charles, I thought that I had already replied for some reason. It is such a beautiful blade, the activity in the hamon, it’s both elegant and visually striking at the same time, such a nicely balanced sword. such a shame it is in Kyu Gunto mounts, I seem to have an aversion towards these let’s call them “transitional” sword mounts. thanks for highlighting it for me though 😊 kind Regards Jan -

Nihonto? Japanese Naval sword for sale

Thank you so much for your help, always better to know than to buy blindly. I have been scanning the web for more information on this smith, but it seems to be hard to come by, just waiting for close ups of the Jihada, Kissaki and Mei to be able to work out wether it is a real Gendaito as that’s what I’m looking for, the fittings are but a compliment. -

Nihonto? Japanese Naval sword for sale

I have been researching him online for the past morning, lots of interesting info as you suggested. I have managed to import better photos of the mei and blade, however the mei looks different from the ones I have seen elsewhere, but then again not being able to read Japanese, my opinion is of low merit. Seems like the blade might have traditional preserving oil that obscures the finer details. Once again grateful for all opinions, leaning gendai... -

Thank you for your response, unfortunately I do not posses this piece myself, however I will ask for those photos too. -
Good evening everyone, I have run into this stunning Japanese naval sword for sale online, I have just requested additional photos of the Jihada from the seller. Sword supposedly signed Toshi Hide. Without the additional photos it is hard for my untrained eyes to determine wether it is a true nihonto or a showato, I would be grateful if anyone could help me in this puzzle. grateful for all help, Jan

Thank you for your advice Rawa, I agree buying with papers would be ideal.

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has bought a nihonto from Aoi-Art and shipped it to the U.K. in recent years. where there any issues with import charges, taxes, paperwork and the sort? Or was it mostly a smooth-ish process? I would be grateful for any insights. Thnx

To add my two cents, for the price advertised, one shouldn’t buy it if they have doubts, risky business.
-
You guys really saved me from splashing money wastefully, thank you all.
-
Thanks Brian, what a shame.

I have received the additional photos, unfortunately it looks like a showato to me 😕 could be wrong, maybe just a poor polish.
-
Yes Rawa, £1 - 1.5k is the auctioneers estimate, bearing in mind the 35% tax added on top, or 30% if you leave a commission bid on the auctioneers personal website and shipping/ collection associated fees.

Thank you all for your responses, I have sent a follow up message to the seller requesting a photo of the hamon and jihada as well, which is currently being obstructed by the oil, can’t decide to get it unless they respond before it goes to auction on Wednesday morning. Well I guess if they’re too slow to reply someone else will snatch it up, but o well collecting is like a waiting game after all.

I have requested a photo of the tang from the seller, I’m awaiting the response, it’s the weekend so I guess they will take their time.

Gentleman, I wished to ask for your expert opinion while paying you back with some eye candy, I Have found this Noshu Seki ju Kenemichi Sword for sale, unfortunately there are no tang photos to examine, the photos could be better and the blade itself seems to be obstructed by preserving oil, however it still looks impressive, I thought that many of you would enjoy taking a peek. The blade itself looks gendaito, but without taking a better look at the grain one can't evaluate it to its fullest. The saya seems to have possibly been repainted, the blade looks genuine, with the trademark sanbonsugi -esc hamon of the smith being clearly visible. I have found him in Sloughs book, he was rated at 2 million yen, he worked in the Mino tradition, was a teacher to his younger brother Kanenori and son Kanetoki. I would love to hear your opinions :D

Not at all, as long as it’s in a shirasaya. I’m just picky polish wise.

Hey everyone, I’m brand new here. I’m London based, I owned a lovely Chounsai Emura Gendaito a few years back and regret selling it sorely. I’m currently looking to buy one back, it’s just hard to find one at auction recently. I’m wondering if anyone has any of his works in their collection with which they would be okay to part with. My budget is flexible and ofc dependent on the blades condition, looking forward to hearing back from you guys. Thank you 😊
