there was also this wooden section on the sheath that was missing. don’t know if it has anything to do with the date or not.

Hi! I was just wondering if anyone could help me find out when this katana is from? My brother got it from an old one of his bosses and I’m just looking to get some background history on it. I’m not sure what period it’s from and all I know is that it was made in Japan because it says it on the blade.
